Vote 2023 – Why Local Elections Matter

We have the privilege and responsibility of participating in local elections. While it may be easy to overlook local elections in favor of national ones, it’s important to recognize the impact that local elected officials have on our day-to-day lives. On the ballot for our current election, you will find four City Council seats, three Plano ISD School Board seats, and three Collin College Board Positions. Each of these positions is critical to the growth and development of our community. The City Council seats will determine who makes important decisions about the city’s budget, infrastructure, public safety, and economic development. The School Board seats will determine who sets policy and makes important decisions about our children’s and adult education. Here are a few reasons why you should vote in local elections:
- Local officials make decisions that affect our daily lives.
From the quality of our roads and parks to the safety of our neighborhoods and the quality of our schools, local officials make decisions that directly impact our daily lives. The local elected officials you vote for will be responsible for making important decisions about public services, public safety, education, and economic development in our community. By participating in local elections, you have a say in who represents your interests and priorities.
- Local officials are more accessible and accountable to their constituents.
Unlike national officials who may be more removed from their constituents, local officials are typically more accessible and accountable to the people they represent. They are more likely to attend community events, hold public meetings, and respond to constituent inquiries and concerns. By voting in local elections, you have a direct say in who represents you and how accessible they are to your concerns.
- Local elections have a lower turnout, so your vote can have a bigger impact.
While national elections tend to have a higher turnout, local elections often have a lower turnout. This means that your vote can have a bigger impact in local elections than it might in a national election. By participating in local elections, you can help shape the future of your community and make your voice heard on issues that matter to you.
- Local elections can have a ripple effect on national politics.
While local elections may seem small in comparison to national ones, they can have a ripple effect on national politics. Local officials who are elected in local elections can go on to run for higher office or influence policy at the state or national level. By voting in local elections, you can help shape the future of our community and our country.
In conclusion, local elections are just as important as national ones, if not more so. By participating in local elections, you can help shape the future of Plano and make your voice heard on issues that matter to you. Remember, every vote counts, so let’s exercise our right to vote and make a difference in our community. We encourage you to make your voice heard and participate in this important election. The future of our community is in our hands, so let’s make an informed decision and vote!
