Member Spotlight: Village Medical

The Plano Chamber membership team is thrilled to present our  monthly Member Spotlights! Each month, we will be highlighting different Plano Chamber of Commerce members to continue connecting our members with each other and the Plano community at large.

The Plano Chamber would like to welcome and spotlight Invest member, Village Medical. Heather Wagemann, our Membership Engagement Manager, asked Physician Assistant, Sherri Powell, a few questions about their business, Chamber membership, and role in the community.

1. What would you like readers to know about Village Medical and what you specialize in?

Village medical provides comprehensive medical care to all ages. We are a family practice office that focuses on value-based care. That means we make sure you have your preventative screenings and annual physicals with labs to help care for and prevent chronic conditions.  We have 4 offices in Plano, and 28 offices in the DFW metroplex. My office is located at 1600 Preston Road inside Walgreens. I care for all patients, but my passion is women’s health and weight management.

2. Why did you choose to join the Plano Chamber of Commerce?

Shortly after our office opened in November 2021, a friend invited to go with her to the annual Holiday social for the chamber. Even though I had been a Physician Assistant for over 30 years I was new to Texas and thought it would be a great opportunity to meet her other local businesses and introduce Plano to Village Medical. It was a great event; I was able to network and meet great people, and even patients that I still care for today. I reached out to our corporate office at Village Medical and suggested that we join the chamber.

3. What is your favorite part of your current work environment?

I love having the opportunity to spend time and get to know my patients, to build relationships with them, and provide them the health care that they are looking for. I have personally engaged in a weight loss journey during the last year. I have completed additional education through the obesity medical association in weight management. I get to share my experience with my patients and offer them comprehensive weight management at my office. This includes pharmacologic options and education on behavioral, nutritional, and physical modifications to help them succeed. Obesity is the #1 chronic condition and America affects 40% of our population. It directly contributes too many comorbidities such as high blood pressure, diabetes, osteoarthritis, coronary artery disease and has also been linked to 13 types of cancers. Most of these comorbidities are directly related to a premature death. Medical studies have shown by losing 5% of your body weight you can decrease your risks. A lot of people have struggled with their weight, and there has been a lot of advancement in the treatment of weight management. I am extremely passionate about helping others on their journey.
