Member Spotlight: THR Foundation

The Plano Chamber membership team is thrilled to present our  monthly Member Spotlights! Each month, we will be highlighting different Plano Chamber of Commerce members to continue connecting our members with each other and the Plano community at large.

The Plano Chamber would like to welcome and spotlight, Texas Health Resources Foundation. Heather Wagemann, our Membership Engagement Manager, asked Annual Giving Specialist of the North Region, Meredith Duncan, a few questions about her organization, membership, and role in the community.

1. What would you like readers to know about Texas Health Resources Foundation and what you specialize in?

Texas Health Resources is a faith-based, nonprofit health system that cares for more patients in North Texas than any other provider. We serve North Texas through Texas Health Physicians Group, hospitals, outpatient facilities, Neighborhood Care & Wellness Centers, home health and preventive and fitness services. The Texas Health Resources Foundation strives to enhance the delivery of quality patient care for the communities we are privileged to serve by joining with committed donors to sustain the long-term fiscal viability of Texas Health Resources.

While Texas Health is one of the largest health care systems in the state, it needs various sources of capital to help meet an ever-growing demand for education, community health outreach, clinical programs, facility, and technological enhancements to better serve North Texas communities. Together with generous supporters, the Foundation fulfills a critical role in continuing the mission of Texas Health to improve the health of the people in the communities we serve.

The Foundation raises funds to support clinical, educational and research programs across the Texas Health system. Gifts come through endowments, individual giving (including employees), corporations, foundations, and community organizations. Some examples of projects supported through philanthropy include the enhanced NICU Family Center at Presbyterian Plano Hospital, mobile health outreach, employee support funds, and community impact initiatives.

2. Why did you choose to join the Plano Chamber of Commerce?

Texas Health Resources currently has 29 hospital locations throughout the DFW area. In Plano, we are proud of the work we do within the hospital and out in the community. To utilize our resources and maximize the impact of our healthcare practices, we must know the people we serve and be a member of the community in which we work. The Plano Chamber of Commerce is a wonderful organization that facilitates great networking and fellowship events. Texas Health Resources recognizes the importance of having a seat at the table with community leaders to collaborate and work together to make Plano the best city to live.

3. Tell us about your involvement in the community.

A significant priority of Texas Health Resources is to meet the community where they are. Part of our commitment to a lifetime of wellbeing is offering healthcare outside of the hospital walls. Texas Health Resources offers a program aimed to improve access to quality preventative care and cancer screening services to adults 18+ years through our Wellness for Life Mobile Health program and through our Together Harnessing Resources to Give Individuals Voice and Empowerment, THRIVE program, an evidence-based resiliency curriculum for underserved middle and high school students who have experienced adverse childhood events such as violence, food insecurity, the loss of a loved one, or the risk of homelessness in our community.

4. What is your favorite part of your current work environment?

As the newly formed North Region team at Texas Health Resources Foundation, we hope to continue to learn more about the City of Plano, the community and business leaders and organizations that support Plano, and build relationships to ensure Texas Health Resources continues to deliver quality healthcare and important outreach services in our community.
