MBR Spotlight: Archer Western Herzog

The Plano Chamber membership team is thrilled to present our NEW monthly Member Spotlights! Each month, we will be highlighting two different Plano Chamber of Commerce members to continue connecting our members with each other and the Plano community at large.

The Plano Chamber would like to welcome and spotlight one of our Top Investors, Archer Western Herzog. Heather Wagemann, our Membership Engagement Manager, asked Archer Western Herzog’s DEI and Compliance Manager, Marvin Jackson, a few questions about their business, membership, and their role in the community.

 

1. What would you like readers to know about Archer Western Herzog and what you specialize in?

Archer Western Herzog (AWH) is the design build contractor for the DART Silver Line $1.8B Regional Rail Project.  AWH is a joint venture between Archer Western and Herzog.  Archer Western., Regional Office in Irving Texas, is a division of the Walsh Group a Chicago, IL based company.  Archer Western/The Walsh Group, founded in 1898 serves a diverse client base across twenty-one regional offices across North America. Archer Western is a recognized as a national expert and proven performer in a wide range of projects in the building, civil, transportation and water sectors.  Herzog is a leading rail transit and heavy civil contractor based out of St. Joseph, Missouri.  Herzog, founded in 1969, provides the full gamut of railroad services throughout North America including: construction, operations, maintenance, testing, rail equipment innovation and leasing. Collectively AWH has worked on a majority of the light, passenger and freight rail in the North Texas area.

2. How has being an active member of the Plano Chamber of Commerce impacted your professional development/career?

Being a multi-year active member has afforded AWH a platform to connect with local community leaders, spiritual leaders, and city leaders.  Our membership has allowed the Chamber to advocate on our behalf, serve as a resource for business and connections both locally and regionally and serve the community.

3. Tell us about your involvement in the community.

AWH has been given the opportunity to give back directly to the Plano faith-based, , educational and business community.  Going on our second year, we participated with Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in the Douglass Community during the Holiday season with a sleeping bag/blanket and socks drive.  We have participated with the Mayor’s internship program by sponsoring students to gain valuable work experience through summer employment and training programs.  AWH has also participated in STEM, STEAM and ACE programs for students across the region most recently the Richardson ISD iDREAM program.  AWH has also worked with the Historic Downtown Plano Association to provide presentation to local stakeholders.  AWH staff and field personnel in Plano’s local offerings such as XOXO Coffee, 1418 Coffeehouse, Lockharts and Urban Rio.

4. What piece of advice would you give to our newest members?

One way to ensure you receive the full benefits of the Chamber is to stay engaged at all levels.  Take advantage of networking events like “Coffee with the City”, programming such as “Legislative Virtual Summit”, Chamber committees like Public Policy Committee and the membership list and services.
