1. What first made you interested in participating in Leadership Plano?
In 1994 I was new to Plano and eager to connect with the community. Joining Leadership Plano two years later provided me with a valuable platform to learn about the city and engage with like-minded individuals.
2. What is the most memorable part of your experience (or what is something that was happening in Plano that you remember about that year)?
The most memorable aspect of my experience was witnessing how rapidly our class (14) formed a cohesive unit. I developed lasting bonds with several classmates, which have evolved into lifelong friendships.
3. What is one thing you can attribute to LP that is a success in your life or career?
I credit Leadership Plano for deepening my understanding of Plano‚Äôs history and its developmental journey. Meeting individuals who played a role during the city’s formative years equipped me with insights that guided me as a forward-thinking mayor. This historical perspective was crucial in honoring the foundation laid by those before me.
4. What do you think LP will be like in another 40 years?
The future of Leadership Plano is contingent on the choices made by its leadership. Ideally, I hope it finds ways to be innovative and continues to serve as a platform for training, education, and identifying the leaders of tomorrow.
5. If you had to provide leadership advice to someone considering running for local office, what would it be?
Be cautious about what you ask for, as you might attain it and then face the question of “Now what?” In essence, understand your purpose and the reasons behind your decision to run for office. Knowing your ‚ why is crucial in navigating the challenges of leadership.
