Dedicated to Caring: RBFCU

The Plano Chamber of Commerce is happy to support Plano ISD by supplying the new-to-the-district teachers with items from Plano Chamber members. The teachers received their items during the Plano ISD’s New Teacher Welcome & Orientation in early August as the teachers learn about Plano ISD culture, connecting teachers to key district personnel and welcoming them to the Plano ISD family.

Veronica Andrulat, Program Manager of the Plano Chamber, asked our Dedicated to Caring Sponsor, some questions about their company and why the Plano Chamber and Plano ISD is so important to them. Plano ISD Teacher Bag Sponsor, Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union, will share more about their company!

What would you like readers to know about your company and what you do?

Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union was established in 1952 when nine servicemen pooled $5 each. That’s nine people and $45. Now, as we’re coming up on our 70th birthday, RBFCU is the largest Texas credit union. We passed 1 million members last year and we have $15 billion in assets. We believe we do it by providing high-value products and services – people helping people. RBFCU offers all the banking services you would expect from a leading credit union, and we’ve also made it our mission to help improve our members’ economic well-being and quality of life. Our commitment to personalized service makes RBFCU membership the smarter banking choice.

How long have you been involved in the Plano Chamber of Commerce (as a business) and why did you choose to join the Plano Chamber of Commerce?

RBFCU expanded into the Dallas-Fort Worth market in 2014, and that’s when we joined the Plano Chamber. We obviously saw the Chamber as a priority in getting our name out into the community. We still see the value, in the city of Plano and the surrounding area as well. It’s helped us to partner with other chambers. And because of our relationship with the Chamber, it helped us build a bridge to the school district. And that’s where we see we can make a huge difference, to help people make the best financial decisions for their future.

What is your current/future involvement with Plano ISD/the community?

Partnering with groups involved in education, whether it’s someone like the Texas PTA or a school district, is a natural thing for us. It bridges our willingness to serve as a trusted financial partner to the community at large. It puts us in front of parents, educators and young learners. It all fits together as we get our main focus out there: the financial aspect of wellness and literacy, educating people about RBFCU and the larger credit union option and benefits compared to traditional banking.

Our Financial Literacy Team of Jennifer Crawford and Michelle Herrera represent more than 30 years of financial service to credit union members. They have earned Certified Credit Union Financial Counselor through the Credit Union National Association as well as Credit Union Development Educator through the National Credit Union Foundation. They have helped us with school districts in North Texas. They come in and do presentations on budgeting, credit, saving and investing and money management and always stress the difference a credit union can make in someone’s financial journey. These are free opportunities, we provide the materials, and Michelle and Jennifer can customized the instruction to meet specific needs and objectives. You’ll also see we discuss issues like cybersecurity and fraud. That’s increasing. How do we tackle that and how do we help our members, beyond the basics of checking and savings accounts, with these and other components of technology? We want to show how we make banking – financial transactions – easier, efficient and secure.
