Business Bulletin – June 22, 2020

In order to keep you informed on the evolving impact of COVID-19 on our local community, the Plano Chamber will be publishing updates on Mondays and Thursdays as the Business Bulletin. We will share the top news items that you need to read to stay up-to-date on important health, community, and business issues as they develop.

FEDERAL
- A fourth coronavirus aid relief bill is still in negotiations in DC, with the White House beginning to detail some of the aspects they would like to see included in a bill, including a payroll tax cut and increased manufacturing jobs. The timeline continues to be likely July for passage.

STATE
- Governor Abbott held a press conference today to address the rapid rise in Coronavirus cases underway in Texas. The Governor detailed the State’s actions to combat the spread, including surge response teams to hotspot areas and he heavily stressed the need for all Texans to wear protective face coverings when out in the public. The Governor also stressed the need for Texans to adhere to the social distancing guidelines, stating that ‘closing down Texas again will be the last option.’

REGIONAL/LOCAL
- Plano ISD Superintendent Sara Bonser will discuss reopening options tomorrow evening with the Plano ISD Board of Trustees, following Gov. Abbott’s and TEA Commissioner Mike Morath’s announcement last week that it would be safe for schools to open this fall and that they will not require facial coverings or testing for students.
