Adventures of An Intern – The Exchange

Introducing, Katherine and Nathan! We are so excited to be joined this summer by two Plano Independent School District students, Katherine Han (Plano West) and Nathan Gong (Plano East), as summer interns for the Plano Chamber. Their internships through the Plano Mayors Summer Internship Program have been generously sponsored by JPMorgan Chase & Co. and FedEx Office – thank you for your support! Please be sure to welcome Katherine and Nathan to the team when you see them this summer!

The Plano Chamber interns are thrilled to present their NEW blog series, Adventures of an Intern. Katherine and Nathan will be joining the Plano Chamber at our various events during their internship.  Follow along on their adventures as they recap our events from a fresh perspective.

Up first, Katherine, a soon to be Senior at Plano West, shares with us her experience at our latest gathering of The Exchange. The Exchange, is a new program offered to the Plano Chamber’s Top Investors:

The Exchange is an exclusive program.  This membership level features an annual program of work that includes meetings, forums, and events designed to bring top investor members together to network, develop relationships, foster discussion about key issues affecting the business community and the Plano community at large.

The Exchange is a leadership designation.  This membership level includes one leadership position reserved for the member’s top executive in the region or a direct report to the top executive in the region to represent the organization and serve as its Designee within this program.

The Exchange Events.  Designees are invited to attend quarterly Exchange events as well as special VIP Receptions and additional special events.

I had the lovely opportunity to attend The Exchange at Clark Hill. It was amazing to see and meet many of the people there. Listening to Joan Holman’s presentation, I learned about the new security threats arising from the shift to working from home. I was surprised about how many details a company must consider while they strive to provide adaptability for their employees. I also enjoyed Kim Moore’s presentation about the changing role of remote work, especially her explanation of the many nuances of defining what warrants an accommodation.

This presentation was especially interesting for me because I would like to study business after graduating from high school. From there, I’d like to go into corporate law. I think this event was an amazing opportunity for me to gain insight into the business and law world. Both Joan Holman’s and Kim Moore’s presentations helped me solidify my interest in the field. I look forward to learning even more in college!

There is so much that businesses deal with that I would never have imagined! It amazed me how the diverse group of companies could share these issues and unite in their effort to find a solution. I learned a lot at the event, and I look forward to the many more I will attend!
