Black History Month: Pamela Zeigler-Petty

The Plano Chamber recognizes and celebrates the contributions of Black leaders, scholars, professionals, and more – today, throughout Black History Month, and beyond. In honor of Black History Month, we are putting the spotlight on a few of the many amazing local Black professionals and leaders that make a difference in our community.

Tell us about what you do.
I have been actively involved in community work since I was a little girl; I believe it’s my responsibility to contribute to communities where I work and live. By day, I oversee community development banking, community outreach, philanthropic giving, employee engagement, and CRA Compliance for a privately held bank. Over the years, working with small businesses as a banker and consultant has solidified my commitment to our communities. I currently serve on the Plano Chamber Board of Directors, chair the Audit Committee and Plano Culture & Inclusion Alliance Committee. It’s incredibly important to me to collaborate and harness the power of inclusion and diversity in our work environment and community. I’m involved in several organizations contributing to Plano & North Texas; we must support our businesses and nonprofits—good for the economy.
Shine a light! What is one of your favorite local Black-owned businesses?
I’m a southern girl who loves “chicken;” so, I have to give a vote to Roots Chicken Shak. I also enjoy the wonderful baked “delights” from Cookie Society. For business solutions, suggest Telecom Electric Supply Co. and The Zeigler Agency.
What ways do you suggest that members of our community celebrate Black History Month?
This is a great month to be “intentional;” promote, support, and purchase Black art. Invest in learning one historic fact, past or current, about an innovator, or innovation. Seek out a product, service, or establishment and patronize the business. Research “one” important local Black organization –volunteer services or donations to the organization you uncover. Take the leap & become a “catalyst” to create a pathway to “change.”
Anything else that you’d like to add?
Black Excellence month applauds culture and heritage. This year, I decided to look within my own lineage to commemorate “pioneers” that have contributed to our rich, layered, and inspiring history. As, I’ve grown to learn more about my family history, I’ve realized that my activism has been embedded in my lineage.
