FEDERAL
- President Trump’s additional funding for unemployment benefits is expected to begin at the end of August and add $300 to unemployment checks. The CARES Act initially added an extra $600 per week, but that benefit expired at the end of July.
STATE
- In a recent briefing on the Coronavirus, Governor Abbott indicated the state’s hospitalizations and positive case rate must decrease before he’ll allow bars to reopen.
- Nearly 3.2 million Texans have filed for unemployment relief since mid-March.
REGIONAL/LOCAL
- The City of Plano is committing to not raise the property tax rate as the city puts together a budget amid the economic downturn.
- The Collin County Commissioners are proposing the effective tax rate again this year, meaning their budget will include no new revenue.
